CHARLES CITY, IA - Usually when a reality show ends, the contestants say their goodbyes, and go their separate ways. So who could have guessed the cast from "Survivor: Gabon" would come back for a reunion... in Charles City.
"Survivor: Gabon" castmate Matty Whitmore commented,"I'm enjoying being around my people again! My former competitors turned family!"
Runner up, and Chuck-town native, Susie Smith is trying to raise enough money to buy a new trailer for her son's high school band. And it didn't take much convincing to get her new friends to help her out.
"They're like, hey, we're going to come out and support you Susie! We know how much it means to you to get this trailer for the band kids," she said.
One of the ways they're hoping to make that goal is through the silent auction. They're auctioning off tons of things from the show, including blocks which were actually used during the game.
The fundraising event is like a dream come true for fans like Connie Krause. She drove four hours to see her favorite reality stars in person.
"I watch it on TV every week. Thursday is "Survivor" day!" she exclaimed.
Others had a shorter commute, but that doesn't mean they're any less excited.
Fan Sherry Hurd said, "it is so awesome to be here and to actually meet some "Survivor" people."
The final six said this frenzy is actually a lot of fun.
Cast member Jessica "Sugar" Kiper told KIMT News 3, "I get stopped for pictures every once in awhile, but it's never crazy like this is crazy!"
They've had quite the adventure in Africa, but all six cast members said they've never experienced anything like North Iowa.
"I haven't seen anybody frowning, or even looking unhappy at all. I love this town!" said Kiper.
"Survivor: Gabon" winner Bob Crowley added, "we've really appreciated our visit here. And we'll be back at some point, I'm sure."
When they do come back, it looks like the high school band will be able to greet them - new trailer in tow.
aww that sucks, that would have been cool for you and us if you could have gone. Love your siggy. _________________ "This stuff is beyond crap. It is what crap wants to be when it grows up"
