Paula Abdul may go on a 'Star Search' By Rick Porter

ABC's long courtship of ex-"American Idol" judge Paula Abdul may finally be paying off.
Abdul is reportedly talking with the network about joining a remake of "Star Search," Zap2it has confirmed, although no deal is done yet. ABC wants to get the new edition of the show off the ground later this year.
ABC started wooing Abdul not long after she left "American Idol" last summer. There were numerous reports that she might be a participant on "Dancing with the Stars," but that didn't pan out for either cycle of the show this season.
The producers of FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance" and Abdul's "Idol" cohort Simon Cowell, who's launching a U.S. version of "The X Factor" next year, have also said they'd welcome her.
The last incarnation of "Star Search" aired on CBS from 2003-04, with Arsenio Hall as host. Before that, it ran for years in syndication with Ed McMahon as host.
So what do you think of the news? Will you be excited to see Paula back on TV? Should she look for something that's not a talent competition?

Report: Paula Abdul finalizing 'Star Search' revival deal with ABC By Christopher Rocchio, 03/16/2010
Paula Abdul is reportedly returning to reality television, but it might not be with her former American Idol colleague Simon Cowell.
Abdul is currently finalizing a deal with ABC to star in the network's latest revival of its Star Search talent competition series, sources told Entertainment Weekly on Monday.
While an ABC representative refused comment, sources told Entertainment Weekly that Abdul's role has yet to be defined but will likely include some combination of hosting and judging.
Abdul announced last August that she was leaving American Idol and ABC reportedly offered her a $1 million development deal earlier this year with the caveat that she also had to appear on Dancing with the Stars.
However a deal never came to fruition and Dancing with the Stars' tenth-season cast was recently revealed without Abdul.
Cowell inked a deal with Fox in January that will end his American Idol judging role while also launching his British The X Factor reality competition series for the network in Fall 2011.
He immediately began hinting that The X Factor may give him a chance to reunite with Abdul, and she subsequently stated she "absolutely" still talks to Cowell but continued to play coy when pressed about if it had to do with her possible involvement with The X Factor.
Cowell said he "will definitely be doing something with" Abdul in the future during an appearance last week on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Paula Abdul: Don't believe 'Star Search' reports 'til you hear it from me By Christopher Rocchio, 03/17/2010
Paula Abdul has indirectly addressed recent reports that she's currently finalizing a deal with ABC to star in a new revival of television's Star Search talent competition.
"Once again, until you hear it from me, you can't believe what you read," wrote Abdul in a Tuesday morning post to her Twitter account.
The former American Idol judge was responding to Monday reports which claimed she would be joining the Star Search revival in a yet-to-be-defined role that will likely include some combination of hosting and judging.

Paula Abdul: No 'Star Search' for me By Rick Porter
March 18, 2010 5:04 PM ET
ABC may still mount a new version of "Star Search," but the network will do so without the services of Paula Abdul.
Abdul had been talking with the network about joining the show, but Zap2it has confirmed that she and ABC weren't able to reach an agreement. The network hasn't given up on "Star Search" altogether, though.
ABC has been wooing Abdul ever since she left "American Idol" last year, and earlier this week several reports suggested the two sides were near a deal. Abdul herself, though, tweeted a note of caution to her fans: "Once again, until you hear it from me, you can't believe what you read ."
Considering that she also announced her "Idol" departure via Twitter, everyone maybe should've cooled their jets until she said something.
Somehow we suspect both sides will be OK after the dissolution of the talks. ABC may go ahead with the show anyway, and Abdul hasn't lacked for post-"Idol" job offers either. She has pretty much an open invitation to appear on "So You Think You Can Dance" at FOX, and her former "Idol" cohort/nemesis Simon Cowell has hinted that he'd love to have her for his American "X Factor" when it launches in 2011.
